Video: LAPD Officers Clash with Man with Knife Accused in Stabbing

Feb. 25, 2025
A 43-year-old man was fatally shot in a clash with LAPD officers after the suspect allegedly stabbed a Los Angeles treatment facility employee in the face, an attack that was caught on video.

LAPD officers stopped a man near the USC campus after he allegedly stabbed a worker in the face at a treatment facility last month.

The incident happened when officers responded to a stabbing call at a residential treatment center in Los Angeles, KABC reports. In security camera footage released by authorities, a 43-year-old suspect—identified as Brian Rolstad—is seen stabbing a facility employee repeatedly.

Rolstad fled the facility, and officers confronted the suspect. Less-lethal beanbag rounds were fired, sending Rolstad to the ground.

The suspect then got back up and advanced at officers, who opened fire with their handguns. Rolstad was struck, and he was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A 6-inch folding knife that Rolstad had during the incident was recovered from the scene.

The shooting is under investigation.
